Thanks for the advice Philip, I will give Westaway and R&J a try. The Westaway website looks impressive and £400 is very good value

Thanks Tony. I have seen the origial Colin Sylvester sail specs and I think I might plumb for that geometry once I come to terms with the cost! I'm sure the genny is bigger than my current one. I have a working jib which is in good nick and as you say, is really useful when the winds really strong ...

Cost of new sails?
I'm thinking of getting new main and genoa to replace by tired and stretched Jack Holt sails. I'm currently measuring my old sils to get an idea of their qeometary to help me in getting a 'like for like' quote from suppliers. I have had a quote back from one supplier (at that stage just asking for a ...

Thank Phillip, I have been talking to Mike (boatproject) who (having built a Swift from scratch and knows more about there construction than most) suggests I push a blade into the crack to see if there is anything behind the GRP....it may have a metal or wood core, or be hollow. I will do this on my ...

worrying crack appeared
I noticed a small crack in the grp moulding where the cabinn floor meets the under cockpit storage area. The crack closes up when afloat and opens up when the tide goes out and she lies on the sand. The crack grew little last summer but then stabilized. In fact I was laying in the bunk one morning ...

North Norfolk sailing
Shakatar is our Swift. Shes been on a drying mooring between Blakeney and Morston for a couple of seasons now. We love sailing in the sheltered Blakeney harbour. The tide heights do make a difference to the sailing area/time on the water, but on all but the lowest neap tides you can sail. On the ...

windlas rotation direction?
I am currently refitting a Swift 18. I have stripped down and serviced the windlas's and am ready to refit them, but now I'm not sure which one goes on which side!!, I should have labled them in some way when I removed them. Its important so the ratchet mechanism works as intended. I need someone to ...

replacing vinyl linings
I'm about to reline part of my Swifts 18's interior. Just got some fantastic swatch samples from a company in Andover ('Boyriven') with all their marine vinyls. They have all the material one would wish for and at a very reasonable price. Does anyone know if all the vinyl on Swifts was originally ...

vinyl retrimming
I must say Ja Ja looks fantastic. I am currently sprucing up my Swift and wondered where you got your vinyl from? Was it the foam backed stuff? Can you recommend a supplier? Many Thanks Jim

decals for Swift 18
Stephen, I too am sprucing up my Swift 18. I spoke to a graphics company today (specialisiing in adhesive backed vinyl) about supplying me with a new vinyl hull stripe (that runs under the toe rail) and new 'swift 18' decals. They colour matched the stripe and the decal from a small piece I took in ...

Window replacement
I have got the old windows out. They are definitely not the originals and I was wondering what thickness acrylic people have in their windows. I have made some templates based on the holes from the ones removed combined with measurment I took of a swift with original windows. The templates look the ...

Replacing Windows
Anyone had any experience in replacing the acrylic windows on a Swift. Mine are a little 'foggy' now with a few cracks. Any ideas/recomendationms for suppliers for the windows . Do any suppliers 'cut to size' or is it a case of ordering a piece and cutting your own to suit? Any thought would be ...
