mainsheet organiser mounting possition U bolt

Is the u bolt fixed dead centre on the cockpit floor or a little towards the stern.? can anybody measure from the grp upright (OUTBOARD MOUNT) to the bracket or from the bracket to the cabin wall? MANY THANKS MIKE IN WARM BUT CLOUDY NORFOLK.

Photo enclosed which shows position to be slightly aft. Unable to supply
dimensions yet but I think the photo should help

Hi Mike,

I have wondered whether a traveller on the pushpit might not be better for the mainsheet. I find the U bolt a bit of a nuisance. It is really the only feature of this boat's design that I dislike, don't know what anyone else thinks??

Never heard of a traveller on a pushpit. May be problematic as it's not designed for this upward force. Agree completely that the centre sheeted main is a pain in the rear as it's in the way when there's 3 or more on board. Simplest solution appears to be 2 strops connected to the backstay u bolts and aft sheeting it from there. It's on my list of ToDo's.

I fitted a single strop between the two backstay anchor points with a small pulley block running on it & the mainsheet attached to that, see photo. I only use it with more than 2 on board though.

All this stroppiness is very interesting and I might give it a go but are we sure that the backstay u-bolts and their fixing are strong enough for the considerable extra load? And in answer to Mike's original question 48cm from the outboard mount. or looking the other way, 54cm from the cabin wall. Rob Court

One strop is simpler to install. However 2 strops would probably allow sheeting of the main closer to the boat's centre line. I'd have to experiment to know for sure but on 420's it was always 2 strops that were used.

I used a 'strop' although I called it a "bridle" on Whacker. I found this very effective ( other end of the sheet on the end of the boom). The U-bolts supporting the back stay seemed to be adequate. It got the main sheet out of the way - there ain't much room in the cockpit!!

What I had was a S/S ring with two wires - one going to each of the U-bolts. The mainsheet was then shackled to the ring

have aquired come bits of an A frame and other bits of alloy tube ,on the old yahoo site alisting by frasr1 shows some bits about it,but I seem unable to comtact him.!the page might have been withdrawn?does not seem to be listed onthe new site,any sugestions?or does anybody know where he is.?

I guess you know as much as this but I give you what I've found out anyway. I think he only appears when the yahoo site first started. He signed himself Ritchie (I presume Fraser) and included an email address fraserr1@yahoo.co.uk but I expect you've already got that far. Sorry I can't help more. By the way, the boat looks great!
