Buying a Boat

Post by AFG »

I've never owned a Swift but am seeking a second-hand one at the moment and have looked at the 15 or so we have at Rutland Water to get an idea of what's about.

I wondered if anyone has any hints or tips of what to look out for when buying a 2nd hand boat. If so, I'd be grateful. Advice about pitfalls and known problems would be particularly welcome!

Thanks!

Hi Tony,
Welcome to the group.
Check out the thread 'Swifts in Wirral/ North Wales' I think most of the answers are in there.
I've spent ages trying to find that thread, I new someone had asked a similar question recently, well last August!
Have a browse through this forum as well, you should come across most of the problems owners have had, and the solutions!
Have you talked to the Swift owners at Rutland?

Rob - Thanks for your reply. Sorry to be a bit late in saying thanks, I've been away on business for a couple of weeks. I will check out the suggested thread. I'm hoping to tie up with Graham Biggs, who I know from the sailing club at Rutland and who was (I think) a dealer for Swift in the early days. Hopefully he will have some info for me.

Thanks again.

I think I would change to back to 'Kylescu Fairy', or perhaps it should have been 'Kylesku' but, either way - it's a clever name that raise a smile ,and lot more romantic then the alternative ' Kylesku Bridge' ! :)

Whatever you decide to name it - hope you can look forward to a good season's sailing.
