Added Comfort.

Post by Rondonay »

Hello Everyone.

I bought a double bed size 3 cm thick memory foam matress topper from EBay for £29. This I cut to the shape of the 1/4 berth matress squabs and put them into the covers on top of the original matresses, which were in amazingly good condition. The result is a much more comfortable bunk in the 1/4 berths for very little cost.

Hi Pauline
Do I understand correctly, you put the new 3" memory foam in the covers as well as the original foam? How did you manage that? The original foam is 3" thick already!
We bought one of those quilt type mattress toppers & Lin re-sewed it into a triangular shape to fit on top of the forward berth, thats an improvement in comfort for less than a tenner! Not as good as new foam but a lot cheaper.

Yes, I added the memory foam to the original foam filling. It fitted, much to my relief. I did worry that there might be a strain on the covers but cut the foam slightly smaller than the main matress and it's fine.
It wouldn't work on the v berth though because the covers are much tighter on Rondonay, not to mention the in-fill section being stapled.

Sorry Pauline, my fault, you did say 3cm in your original message, just noticed. Must be my age, I'm still working in old money!!! :') Gonna try that in the 1/4 berths though!

No it didn't .I edited it when I realised the mistake so that new readers on the thread were not led up the garden path too. Sorry Rob.

Washing Bunk Covers

Post by helenandpete »

Hi
Has anyone M/C washed their zip on bunk covers? I have just taken all my covers off ready to wash but the more I look at them the more I am not sure I should put them in the washing m/c.
Best Regards

Yep, I've washed mine twice now. Standard 40degree wash with no problems. I had some big rust stains on them so I took a risk and rubbed in that gel stuff that gets rust off gelcoat before I put them in and it worked just fine.
Must be tough stuff!

Thanks Terry
I will have a go. I think I will need to wait for a dry day so I can get them out to dry.
